Recorded live clinical seminar
What to do when regulation & psycho-ed don’t move anxiety work forward
A real clinical case deconstructed — the assessment, the decisions, and the point where the work finally moved.
Get the recording — £19Your client knows exactly what anxiety is. She can regulate. And she is still stuck.
You have done the psychoeducation. She understands the autonomic nervous system better than some of your colleagues. She has the regulation skills and she uses them well.
And session after session, you are circling. She arrives, reports that nothing much happened, then describes a reaction to something small that was clearly not small. You go back to the same ground. She is willing. You are working hard. Nothing deepens.
If you take her back to the past, she cannot connect it to anything she is feeling now. If you teach her more regulation, she will feel patronised — she already knows. So you hold, and you hope, and you start to wonder whether it is you.
“Regulation is doing the only job it can, which is stopping her going to panic. But regulation has not let her deepen. So there is something else.”
What this session is
I took a real client and walked a room of therapists through the whole case — out loud, from first presentation to the decision that changed the direction of the work.
Not a lecture with slides. No framework taught in the abstract. One clinical situation, examined properly, with the reasoning exposed at every turn.
I chose this client deliberately. She is not a complex case. She is the case most therapists are sitting with right now.
What you watch me do
- Take the presentation apartWhat matters in the picture, and what is noise.
- Assess capacity, not willingnessWanting root-cause work is not the same as being able to do it.
- Rule out two obvious movesWhy I taught no more regulation, and why I did not go to the past.
- Turn towards the symptoms themselvesThe shift that opened the case.
- Build the mapFour sensations, and what each one privately meant to her.
- Name the pattern underneathWhy accurate physiology was never going to touch it.
Questions came in throughout and I stopped to answer them, so you get the parts people got stuck on rather than a clean run.
Who this is for
- Therapists and counsellors working with anxiety and panic in any modality
- Anyone whose clients have the psychoeducation and the regulation skills and are still not moving
- Practitioners who want to see clinical reasoning in real time, not a model described from a distance
- Anyone who wants to see how an anxiety case is assessed before deciding what to do with it
No prior training with me is needed. The case stands on its own.
Questions
Do I need to know your method already?
No. The case is presented from the beginning and nothing assumes prior knowledge. Where I use language specific to my method, I stop and explain it, because the room asked me to.
Do I need to work in a particular modality?
No. What you are watching is assessment and clinical decision-making. It sits underneath whatever you already practise rather than replacing it.
How long do I have access?
It is yours to keep. Watch it as many times as you want.
Will this resolve every stuck anxiety case I have?
No, and I said so to the room at the time. It answers one specific question — why regulation and psychoeducation stop working, and what to do at that point. That is the question it answers properly.
The client is not the problem
She is doing everything she has been taught to do. So are you. What is missing is a way of reading what her body is already telling both of you.
Eighty minutes, one real case, and the reasoning laid out in full.
